Privacy
Scuttle has no accounts, no ads and no analytics scripts. Here is exactly what happens to your data.
When you search
- Your search is sent to Exa to find web results and to Anthropic (Claude) to build the page. Both receive it from our server, not from your browser, and handle it under their API terms.
- While you type, the text is sent to DuckDuckGo for suggestions, also through our server.
- Finished pages are cached by search text for 24 hours so repeat searches are instant. The cache doesn't record who searched.
What your browser loads directly
Images and site icons load straight from their sources: Wikimedia, YouTube, the websites in your results, and DuckDuckGo's icon service. Like any embedded image, those servers can see your IP address.
Verification and limits
- Scuttle uses Cloudflare Turnstile to check that you're a person. Passing it sets one cookie,
sc_v, for 12 hours. It isn't used for tracking. - To enforce search limits, your IP address is mixed with a secret and the date and then hashed. That gives a one-way ID that changes every day. The IP itself is never stored, and the ID is deleted when the day ends.
Usage totals
We keep daily totals: how many searches ran, roughly how many different visitors there were (counted with the daily ID above), and which countries they came from. These totals don't include searches or IP addresses.
Hosting
Scuttle runs on Cloudflare, which processes requests under its own privacy policy.
